What did you do this past week?
I finished up the Collatz project, adding the optimizations and working through the rest of the workflow. Each of my other classes also had projects so I also spend some time working on those.
What’s in your way?
There’s a lot of steps in the workflow and parts of the rubric that don’t really give any sort of instant feedback. I wish there was a way to tell if I really completed each of the parts before I turn the project in.
What will you do next week?
I have to finish up the projects for my other classes, AI and iOS. The AI projects seems the more concerning of the two. I took a quick look and it looks like there’s a lot of starter code to read through. I also gotta start applying to all the internships for next summer.
What was your experience of Collatz, the starter code, the makefile, its optimizations, and exceptions? (this question will vary, week to week)
At first the workflow seemed a little daunting for such a small project in terms of functionality, but I think that as I worked through it, I realized that it’s a really good introduction to all the tools and how they can be used when working on a bigger project in the future. The starter code was readable and pretty self-explanatory and the optimizations needed to pass the HackerRank tests weren’t too complex, which was nice. Docker was also surprisingly easy to set up, though I did have to reboot into BIOS to turn on virtualization.
What made you happy this week?
I’ve started playing Among Us with some friends and it’s been pretty fun. Definitely a nice change from the other games we usually play.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I’ve been using Google Calendar and Tasks to keep all my homework organized. Keeping it bookmarked on my browser is key since it’s gotten me into the habit of just clicking on it when I open a new tab which keeps me from getting distracted.
